If you are interested in mental health services during the Fall semester, you can email counselingcenter@utdallas.edu. We will respond to your message within 1 business day.

The SCC provides mental health counseling and psychiatric services to currently enrolled students and does not offer academic advising/counseling. If you are interested in speaking to an academic advisor or have questions about registering for courses, you can find your advisor HERE

How to prepare for a virtual session

  • Create a Microsoft Teams account utilizing your UTD netid and password
  • Ensure you have a working computer/phone and wi-fi (if needed)
  • Find a private and quiet space where you feel comfortable talking
  • Be available and ready to engage in session at your scheduled day/time

Texas Health and Human Services has launched a 24/7 statewide mental health support line to help Texans experiencing anxiety, stress or emotional challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.This new resource offers COVID-19-related mental health support for all Texans. People can call the Statewide COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week toll-free at 833-986-1919.

Students taking medication

If you are currently taking prescription medication, continue to take the medication as prescribed unless directed otherwise by your physician. If you are concerned about the quantity of your remaining supply, check the bottle which will usually specify how many refills are remaining, or you can contact the pharmacy to confirm if refills are available. If you will be needing refills, contact your physician's office at least several days (preferably longer) before you would otherwise run out, to allow them time to respond

Self care during campus closure

Take a walk outside, exercise by accessing a you tube channel or other social media

Communicate with others online or by phone, in person using social distancing

Keep a daily routine, Meals, classes, study time, relaxation time. Having a schedule helps us contain emotions and feel a sense of control.

Organize your space to feel more comfortable

Take up an activity that requires use of your body and mind, which can give you an emotional break: knitting, art, playing an instrument, etc.

Start a journal about what this experience is like for you. But be sure to end your daily entry with 3 good things about the day, however small, to help keep your spirits up.

Maintain perspective. While this is a HUGE event for all of us, remind yourself of what’s good in your life and what’s important: health, friends, being able to continue towards your degree, religion, and spirituality.
