Immigration News

ISSO Immigration Workshops Available in January

There is no registration required for workshops. Please plan to arrive 10 - 15 minutes early to sign in and find a seat.

OPT Workshops for F-1 Students
Learn about the OPT application process , reporting requirements, employment, and travel considerations on January 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 2:00pm to 3:30pm in SSB 3.107.

CPT Workshop for F-1 Students
Learn about the CPT application process, eligibility, and maintenance of status on January 13, 21 and 27 from 2:00pm to 3:30pm in SSB3.107.


Journey to H1B - Immigration Attorney Seminar

Join the International Center for a seminar presented by local immigration attorney, David Swaim. This session will discuss practical training for F-1 students and the journey to applying for an H1B work visa. The semester will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 5pm - 7pm in JSOM 1.118.


Time Sensitive Notifications for F-1 Students

Graduation and Beyond

Before February 11, 2020. If you are an F-1 student, have completed your academic requirements and are remaining in the U.S. after Fall 2019 graduation, make appropriate preparations such as applying for OPT, starting another academic program or transferring out to another school, or departing the U.S..

Change of Level

Before Census Day, January 29, 2020. Students who completed an academic program or ended OPT in the Fall 2019 semester and will continue or begin another degree program in the Spring 2020 semester, must obtain a Change of Level I-20 to maintain their F-1 status.

Change of Major

Census Day, January 29, 2020. Students whose primary major will change to a different Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code for the Spring 2020 semester, will be issued a Change of Major I-20 by the International Center beginning Census Day of the Spring 2020 semester. These students will receive an e-mail notification when their new I-20 is ready to pick up.
