McDermott Library to Offer Contactless Curbside Delivery beginning July 30


McDermott Library is taking a phased approach to reopening the building with a new contactless service that allows customers to check out materials from its collection during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the first phase, the library building will remain closed to customers, but curbside delivery of materials from the main stacks and DVDs will be available. UT Dallas students, faculty and staff with a valid Comet Card may request titles electronically through Discover, the library’s online system beginning July 28 for pickup July 30. Clicking on a title that is displayed in green as “available” at McDermott Library will bring up a screen with a “request” button under the “Get it” section.

Library staff will pull items requested. When the items are ready, customers will receive an email notification that includes details about the pickup location (Lot G, north of the library) and instructions on scheduling a contactless transaction to retrieve the items.

When customers arrive in one of the library’s designated parking spots in Lot G, they should call the Information Desk at 972-883-2955 and provide their name and UT Dallas ID number. A staff member will bring their items to their car and check their Comet Card for verification.

Curbside delivery hours are Monday-Friday.

Customers may return items, other than cameras, laptops or calculators, through the library’s walk-up and drive-up book returns. Those who have a laptop, camera or calculator to return should contact Ellen.Safley@utdallas.edu.

Later phases of the reopening will include access to textbooks and reserve collections. The Copy Center functions such as printing, scanning and copying, as well as access to computers, will also be available at a later date.
