Arthur Murray Dance Studios
There are no general dances open to the public. But there are dancing for studio students 9-10:30pm on Thursdays, which comes with instructional packages. Much the same as other franchise studios. 35x35 sq. ft. dance floor.

Austin Tango Connection
The Austin Tango Connection is a not-for-profit group dedicated to the Argentine Tango. They host various classes, practices, and social dances. In particular, Thursday night dances at the Ritz Lounge are an outlet for members of this club. Sundays 7:30 - 9:30 pm Austin Tango Connection hosts a practica (practice session) at Tapestry Studios, 507-B Pressler, admission $3. For more information, contact atc@mods.com.

Dallas Nightclub
A popular place for country western dancing. The music is mostly 2-step, western waltz, polka and jitterbug. Occasionally, the disk jockey plays a set suitable for west coast swing (or whip). There is a buffet every night starting around 6:00 pm. The cover charge ranges from $1 - $3, depending on the night. Free lessions are given on Tuesday nights starting at 7:00 pm. Sunday nights usually a group from the Heart of Texas Whip Dance Club show up for practice.

Dance International / Stewart Yaros
Independent instructor working (currently) out of the Hills Fitness Center. Teaches a variety of dances, including international style Standard and Latin, as well as country western. Organizes occational open dances at various locations. Call to enquire.

Go Dance
This studio is owned by David Cantu, and teaches a variety of Swing, Latin, Ballroom, and Country Western dance classes. David Cantu used to be an independent dance instructor in the Austin scene. This dance studio used to be called Club 183; the change of name came with the change of ownership in early 1998.

Heart of
Texas Whip Dance Club
The club meets on Wednesdays at Murchison Junior High School off of Far West Boulevard west of Loop 1 (Mopac Freeway). Advanced levels begin at 7pm, beginner and intermediate levels at 8pm. Call the hotline at 512-404-9881 for details about what is being taught each month.
The club also meets on Tuesday and Friday after work (6pm) at the club Tanjerines which is adjacent to the Renaissance Hotel in the Arboretum.

Miguel's La Bodega
One of the more popular local Latin dance venues, La Bodega is a restaurant by day and a nightclub in the evening, Tuesday thru Saturday. It is located between 4th and 5th on Colorado.

Quicksilver Dancers
QuickSilver Dance Center is located in Rm #H-101 of the North Austin Business Park, 8711 Burnet at Polaris, 1 block south of Hwy 183. Class fees for 4-week courses are $55/couple, $30/single. One-night workshops cost $25/couple, $15/single. C&W practice every Sunday 6-8pm, and general practice every Wednesday 6-9pm. Practices are open to the public. Quicksilver concentrates mostly on Country and Western: 2-Step, C/W swing, Western Waltz, Whip, and Jitterbug. They also offer a ballroom workshop on Fridays.

Whip and swing dancing in a nightclub atmosphere. The Heart Of Texas whip club meets here for dance practice on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

University of Texas Ballroom Dance Club
Variety of dance classes and activities. Dance classes in Spring and Fall semester. There are two major events sponsored by this club: The Great Waltz every Fall, where you have the opportunity to dress to the hilt and dance the night away in the beautiful Texas Union Ballroom to Vienese Waltz and Polka, played by the Austin Civic orchestra. One of the better annual events in Texas and very well attended by dancers (both collegiate and otherwise) from Austin, Houston and Dallas. The other event, which is rather new, is the New Year Swing Out, where you can dance swing and some Latin to the sounds of a live band.
