Course Description: This is a seminar course intended for Ph.D. students only. Pricing is a fundamental decision faced by all
firms and it is one of the most powerful levers to increase profitability. Consequently, it has found a
prominent place in a number of disciplines, from economics, marketing to operations. The theory and
practice of pricing have greatly advanced over the last twenty-five years. There is strong interest in and
need for better pricing methods in industry. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the
theory of pricing. A secondary objective of the course is to familiarize students with some of the
methodological tools used to study pricing theory, such as dynamic programming, contract theory and
behavioral economics. The course will comprise of a set of classes covering the fundamentals of pricing
theory, as well as an overview of some of the state-of-the-art research in the area.
