Groundwater Characterization

The goal of this lab is to investigate groundwater, making the same kind of physical flow (water quantity and flow characteristics) and chemistry (water quality) measurements that we did for surface water in the earlier labs. We will sample water from a borehole on campus, located within 100 meters of the stream we sampled in earlier labs. We should see some important chemical differences between stream and groundwater, as well as important similarities. We should also be able to characterize flow rates in the shallow aquifer.

We will make our measurements at the hand-dug well in the Science Center parking lot.
