I am an Associate Professor of Political Economy at the University of Texas at Dallas.

I study the politics of finance and development. My book, “Raise the Debt: How Developing Countries Choose Their Creditors” (Oxford University Press) analyzes why some developing countries accept loans from the Chinese government, while others reject them. My work has appeared in The British Journal of Political ScienceInternational Studies QuarterlyJournal of Peace ResearchWorld DevelopmentReview of International Political Economy, and elsewhere.

My work has received several awards. My book "Raise the Debt" received the award for Best Book in International Political Economy of the International Studies Association (ISA) in 2020. In addition, I have received awards for teaching excellence at the departmental, college, university, and state level. In 2020, I was awarded the "Regents Outstanding Teaching Award" for teaching excellence among the 14 public universities of the University of Texas system.
