Content

Topological Data Analysis (TDA) is a recent and fast growing field providing a set of new topological and geometric tools to infer relevant patterns and features for various forms of complex data. In this course, we will give a friendly introduction to the subject and introduce the key methods. We start with a visual introduction to topology. Then, we cover persistent homology, nonlinear dimension reduction with Reeb graphs and mapper techniques and their applications in different domains.

Projects:

There will be projects suitable for students in both CS major and Math/Data Science major. For students with coding background, projects will cover some hands-on TDA applications in real life data, while students without coding skills will present important papers in the subject.

Grading:

Midterm Exam 20% + Final Exam 40% + Project 40%
