Dr. John Ferraris (email: ferraris@utdallas.edu) came to UTD in 1975 after a two year appointment as an NRC Postdoctoral Fellow at NIST in Washington, D.C. He has been Chemistry Department Head since 1995, and served as Interim Dean of Natural Science and Mathematics from 2003 to 2006. In 2001, Dr. Ferraris was the recipient of the prestigious W. T. Doherty Award given by the DFW Section of the American Chemical Society.

Dr. Ferraris also maintains an active research group and has been the PI or co-PI on over $10M in extramural contracts and grants from federal, state and private sources since 1992. Research in the Ferraris group focuses on the design, synthesis and characterization, and application of novel electroactive organic materials including electrochemical capacitors, light emitting polymers and organics, nanostructured hybrid membranes for high temperature fuel cells, and electrochromic polymers.

Dr. Ferraris has over 200 publications and 13 US patents/applications.
