UTD Basic Capabilities of BandProf

BandProf provides a rapid way to visualize the energy-band profile of a semicondutor heterostucture device. The following image is a screen capture of BandProf in action.

The text edit window to the lower left is the point at which the device design (layer composition and doping) is entered. A heterostructure description language developed at UT-Dallas, called HeteroTech, is used.

The main window of BandProf is at upper right. It displays the energy band profile, and contains the main program controls. The device in this example is a heterostructure bipolar transistor. The partially obscured window below displays the carrier densities. In this particular case, BandProf has been configured to use a drift-diffusion model to treat the electrons, and a zero-current model to treat the holes. The minority electron distribution through the base of the device is clearly visible.
