Gender Studies Lecture Series presents...

Gender, Race and Marital Stability in America

Dr. Terri Orbuch

Professor of Sociology
Oakland University

Maintaining happy and healthy relationships is a challenge even during the best of times. So how do we manage our relationships during these stressful times? The Early Years of Marriage project is a unique study that has followed a large and diverse sample of over 370 married couples for over 20 years. The primary objective of the project is to better understand the determinants of marital quality and stability among Black American and White American couples in the United States. In this presentation, Dr. Orbuch will present some of the latest findings from this research project. The findings highlight the importance of both gender and race in understanding what works and what doesn’t for healthy, enduring relationships in today’s fast-paced world.
