Gender Studies Program Requirements

Major Requirements 42-43 hours

Upper Division Major Courses (36 hours)

A. Gender Studies Core Courses (12 hours)

GST 2300 Introduction to Gender Studies

GST 3301 Psychology of Gender

GST 3302 Gender in Western Thought

GST 3303 Gender, Society, and Politics

B. Disciplinary Methods (3-4 hours)

Choose 1 of the following Methods courses:

AP 3300 Elements of Art and Performance HST 3301 Historical Inquiry LIT 2341 Literary Analysis PSY 2317 Strategies of Research in Psychology PSY 2317 Statistics for Psychology SOCS 3305 + SOCS 3105 Introduction to Social Statistics with Laboratory

 

C. Gender Studies Major and Related Courses (27 hours)

Required of all majors: 

BIS 3320  The Nature of Intellectual Inquiry

You can choose the remaining 24 hours of courses from any disciplinary programs that offer courses with gender studies content.

Elective Requirements (36 hours)

Required of all majors:  Advanced Elective sequence (6 hours)  

Free electives:  30 hours.

Core Curriculum Requirements (42 hours)

All students at the University of Texas at Dallas must complete the following:

A. Communication (6 hours; includes BIS 3320)

B. Mathematics/Quantitative Methods (6 hours)

C. Natural Sciences (9 hours; one course must have lab component)

D. Humanities and Fine Arts (6 hours)

E. Social and Behavioral Sciences (15 hours, which includes 6 hours of American History and 6 hours of U.S./Texas Government)
