I am Professor of Public Policy, and Political Economy, and Political Science in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas.
My political science research employs time series analysis methods and machine learning in a variety of areas. The main time series models employed in this research involve Bayesian statistics, multiple equation or vector autoregression models, methods for producing and evaluating the quality of forecasts, the derivation of new models for time series of counts, and modeling structural change and endogenous shifts in data over time. My research interests center on the study of political dynamics. This focuses on the development and application of time series and forecasting models to the study of political institutions, political economy, international relations, and violent political conflict such as terrorism. My publications are applications of time series methods in the social sciences. Finally, I have done research on event count time series that has produced new estimators, widely to used to model interstate conflict counts, presidential vetoes, terrorism events. This research agenda has been funded by the National Science Foundation.
