Aging and Memory Research

We explore 3 basic and strongly related themes within the limbic system:

1. What are the cellular and network events encoding new memories?

2. How does the aging process alter these mechanisms?

3. If age-associated neuronal changes are reversed, do we restore

learning and memory in aging individuals?

We use a wide variety of methods (behavioral, physiological, pharmacological,

neurochemical), time-dependent designs (chronic, acute, cross-sectional, longi-

tudinal), preparations (freely-behaving, brain and tissue slices, and isolated cells),

and species (human and animal) to increase both the power and generality of our findings.
