Prof. Ma is a professor of Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and the Distinguished Chair in Microelectronics at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas), Richardson, TX. He is the director of Integrated Power Electronics System Laboratory (IPESL) at UT Dallas and was the director of Texas Instruments Foundational Technology Research Center on Power Density from 2018 to 2020. Prof. Ma also serves on the Executive Committee of Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) Texas Analog Center of Excellence (TxACE) since 2010, and is in charge of SRC-TxACE IC Fabrication Initiative. He was the founding leader of the Energy Efficiency Thrust for the Center from 2010 to 2018. Prior to joining UT Dallas, Prof. Ma was a faculty member with Louisiana State University and the University of Arizona. Prof. Ma was honored as Analog Devices Professor (2004-2008), TxACE Chair (2010-2012), Erik Jonsson Distinguished Chair (2012-2017), and has been the Distinguished Chair in Microelectronics since 2017. He is the recipient of United States National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award in 2009, and also received the AAFSAA Outstanding Faculty Award in 2006 and Fusion Innovation Award in 2012. Prof. Ma is a recipient or co-recipient of 12 prize paper awards from international conferences and journals.
IPESL Lab has multiple research and teaching assistantship openings for Fall 2023 admitted Ph.D. students. Motivated students with strong mixed-signal IC or power electronic circuit/device background are highly encouraged. To apply, please email official copies of school transcripts, GRE score, UTD Graduate Program Admission Result, and research publications (if any) to Prof. Ma.
Ph.D. Student
Lixiong received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2016, and the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA, in 2018. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering with The University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX, USA. His research interests include isolated high step-down converters and low-EMI and high-reliability GaN power converters. He received the Charitat Award from the IEEE International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD) in 2022. He also received the Best Poster Award from Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) and the Texas Analog Center of Excellence (TxACE) Annual Review in 2022.
Ph.D. Student
Yuanqing received the B.E. degree in Electronic Science and Technology from Xidian University, Xi'an, China, and the M.S. degree in Microelectronics from the University of Macau, Macau, China, in 2014 and 2018, respectively. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering with The University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX, USA. His research interests include high-performance integrated power electronics, high step-down DC-DC conversion, wide bandgap (WBG) power device/circuit reliability and condition monitoring, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven smart power converters. He was a recipient of the UT Dallas GSA Student Travel Grant Award in 2022 and the SRC and Texas Analog Center of Excellence Best Poster Award in 2023.
Ph.D. Student
Jin received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Univeristy of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX, USA, in 2017. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering with The University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX, USA. His research interests include high step-down DC-DC converters and hybrid DC-DC converter topologies. He received the TxACE Promising Researcher Award in 2018, Analog Devices ISSCC Student Designer Award in 2022, and the Best Poster Award from IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC) in 2023.
Ph.D. Student
Oscar received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and Zhejiang University, respectively. Before joining IPSL, he was with Silergy Corp. as senior analog design engineer for 6+ years. Most of his experiences are focused on monolithic DC-DC converters and PMICs. The total revenue of the projects he led and designed accumulates to over 50 million USD. His research interest includes WBG power converters and motor drives. An interesting fact about Oscar is that he also holds an MBA degree from Zhejiang University. He likes playing tennis and enjoys cooking for his family and friends. He received the TxACE Promising Researcher Award in 2023.
Ph.D. Student
PJ received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2017, and the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at the Univeristy of Texas at Tyler, Tyler, TX, USA, in 2023. He joined IPSL as a Ph.D. student in Fall 2023. His research focuses on analog-mixed signal circuits, and power converters.
Undergraduate Intern
