CNC Router Asembly ProjectThe undergraduate team just finished assembling this router and look forward to using it on projects.
A Ph.D. candidate from the UTD Mechanics of Materials Lab in ECSW is working with the undergraduate project team to fabricate test samples using the CNC router in the project workshop. This work relates to graduate research on new composite materials.
MADE IN UTD When such a collaboration occurs naturally, everyone wins: the undergraduate team, the graduate student, the faculty, and the labs. We always look forward to such great things to happen. An interesting lesson learned during this process is to add an orange acrylic sheet under the piece, which is to be cut. When the router picks up orange dust, the team can tell that the cut is 100% complete.
The team used a vacuum to remove dust while cutting the new composite material. However, the fine dust escaped the filter into the workshop. To hold the dust from floating into the room, a subsequent team built a containment box. The CAD rendering was provided for approval.
